Post Office Syllabus | Exam Pattern and Complete Syllabus for Recruitment of Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistants in Post Office 2014




Post Office Recruitment board has invited applications for recruitment of 8243 Postal Assistants and Sorting Assistants in various post offices throughout India in 2014. All Eligible applicants who has filled application form shall be invited to appear in Aptitude test ( Test-1). Candidates passing aptitude test will be invited for computer test according to merit and number of vacancies ( Applicants numbering five time to the total vacancies in each category i.e UR, SC, ST, OBC shall be applicable to take computer test).

Examination Pattern for Aptitude Test

All eligible candidates shall be subjected to an Aptitude test of Total 100 marks comprising in four parts (A,B,C,D) for duration of 2 hours. One thing candidates must note that there is no negative marking so all candidates must attempt each and every question to get good marks and better rank. A candidate has to qualify in each section separately ( i.e Section A, B, C and D) to get considered for final merit list. Qualifying marks for each section are as below ( category wise ).
  1. For Unreserved Candidates:- 40% or 10 marks in each section.
  2. For OBC Candidates:- 37% or 9 marks in each section.
  3. For SC/ST:- 33% or 8 marks in each section.

Syllabus for Aptitude Test

Part A:- 25 Questions on General Knowledge - Questions on current events, sports, history, geography, basic economics, general politics, Indian Constitution, Science environment etc (25 marks).
Part B:- 25 Questions on Mathematics of matriculation standard which may cover number system, simplification, decimals, corrections, simple and compound interest, percentage, average, profit and loss, discount, menstruation, Time & work and time & distance etc. (25 Marks)
Part C:- 25 questions on English covering grammar (prepositions, adverbs, conjunction, direct/indirect speech, singular & plural, tenses, antonyms/synonyms etc. (25 Marks)
Part D:- 25 Questions on Reasoning and analytical Ability. (25 marks)

Applicants numbering 5 times the total posts on the merit basis of Aptitude test shall be declared qualified for taking computer test / Typing test ( paper-II).

Pattern of Computer Test / Typing Test

The typing test will be for a duration of 30 minutes ( 15 minutes for typing and 15 minutes for data entry) consisting one passage of 450 words in English OR 375 words in Hindi to be typed with a minimum speed of 30 words per minute or 25 words per minute respectively. Test in Data entry will be of some figures and letters each carrying equal marks on computer . The above test will be conducted on Computer Key board, but not on a typewriter. Further, the candidates have to secure prescribed qualifying marks in this test. The marks will be based on speed, and accuracy. This is a combined test, and marks in both the components will be put together for qualifying.
