Blood Relations- Important Tricks and Shortcuts [Reasoning]




Here are important shortcuts and tricks to solve problems on Blood Relations. Basic knowledge regarding solving questions and problem on Blood Relations is important for various competitive exams like IBPS, SBI Bank PO, assistant, SSC exams, Railway exam, UPSC exams.

Problem solving tips: 

  • While solving blood relations problems assume yourself as central character and imagine your relative according to the question.
  • Arrange person's of different generation in different lines.
  • Mark male member's as '+' and female members as '-' to remember their gender.

Below are some examples and tricks regarding blood relations:


Example 1: A and B are married couple. X and Y are brothers. X is the brother is A. How is Y related to B?
Solution: As X is brother is A, and Y is brother of X so Y is brother of A.
B is married to A, so A's brother is brother-in-law of B.
Solution Type 2: Consider yourself as A and B as your wife. Your(A) brother's(X) brother(Y) is brother-in-law of your wife (B).

Example 2: Pointing to a lady in the photograph, Shaloo said, "Her son's father is the son-in-law of my mother." How is Shaloo related to the lady?
Solution: Lady's son's father is her husband
Shaloo's mother's son-in-law is either her husband or her sister's husband
So lady's husband is either Shaloo's husband or her sister's husband.
So lady in the picture is either Shaloo or sister.
As Shaloo and Lady are different so Shaloo and Lady are sisters.
