Multiplying Any Number With 11 - Mathematics Tricks and Shortcuts

Here is mathematical trick to multiply any number with 11. Shortcut tricks are very helpful for fast calculations in competitive exams as time allotted is too less for lengthy calculations. So shortcut tricks helps us to solve questions is very less time hence improving chances of getting good score and higher rank in merit.

Multiplying Any Number With 11

Follow steps below:

1. First append 0 to the front and end of the number. (like write 234 as 02340)
2. Now start adding from last two digits and write result below.
3. Add second second last and third last digit and write result before above result.
4. Follow this until you reach extreme left and the result you get is your final answer.

Follow examples below to understand it better:

Eg. 1: 

435 *11
=> Now we write 435 as 04350 ( 0 appended on both sided of number)
=> Now adding last two number (04350)- 5 + 0 = 5
=> (04350)- 3 + 5 = 85
=> (04350)- 4 + 3 = 785
=> (04350)- 0 + 4 = 4785
=> 435 * 11 = 4785 (Ans)

Eg. 2: 

1286 *11
=> Now we write 1286 as 012860 ( 0 appended on both sided of number)
=> Now adding last two number (012860)- 6 + 0 = 6
=> (012860)- 8 + 6 = (1)46 (1 is carry, added to next digit)
=> (012860)- 2 + 8 + 1 = (1)146 (1 is carry, added to next digit)
=> (012860)- 1 + 2 + 1= 4146
=> (012860)- 0 + 1 = 14146
=> 1286 * 11 = 14146 (Ans)
