Find Square of A Number Ending With 1


Follow steps below (most useful for 2 digit numbers) :

  1. Round down the number by subtracting 1.
  2. Now find square of the round down number.
  3. Add the round down number and original number.
  4. Add this sum to the square and this of your answer.

Follow examples below to understand it better:


Eg. 1: 

(21)2
=> Round down 21 to 20 (by subtracting 1 from 21)
=> Square of 20 is 400.
=> Sum of 20 + 21 = 41 (sum of round down number and original number)
=> 400 + 41 = 441 (adding square and sum from above)
(21)2 = 441

Eg. 2: 

(41)2
=> Round down 41 to 40 (by subtracting 1 from 41)
=> Square of 40 is 1600.
=> Sum of 40 + 41 = 81 (sum of round down number and original number)
=> 1600 + 81 = 1681 (adding square and sum from above)
(41)2 = 1681
